In These Uncertain Times?

Since the pandemic hit us in March of this year (2020), I continually hear the phrase "...in these uncertain times". I hear it on Christian radio and TV. I hear/see it all over social media. While we are experiencing "unprecedented times", I disagree that because of a pandemic we're all of a sudden in "uncertain times". Think about it. Life itself is uncertain. It always has been. We can't guarantee our next heartbeat. We don't know what next week holds. Yes, we can plan stuff, but listen to James. "Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.' Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." (James 4:13-15) My point is that we've always lived in uncertain times. And we've always needed to trust in Jesus, who is the Rock of all ages, to find true peace and certainty! However, because of the pandemic, many believers are realizing the urgency to seek the face of God. As a result, many are finding peace and renewal by God's awesome Spirit!

It doesn't matter how unprecedented things are currently, "Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Hebrews 13:8) That has never changed either, and never will! Those who wholly trust in Jesus have always found peace, even in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation (as Jesus said). Since the fall of man, the world has presented to us nothing but trouble and uncertainty. "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

"...take courage", Jesus said. Why? "Because I have overcome the world.", He said. Understand this my friends, we serve a Savior God who has overcome the world. Jesus overcame this world by virtue of His coming into this world. He was conceived by the Spirit of God, thus He was born of God. "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith." (1 John 5:4) In Jesus there was no sin. He was born from above. He was not conformed to this world, because He was not of this world. Therefore He was born having already overcome the world!

If you feel that you are living in uncertain times, draw near to Jesus. If you don't know Him, call on Him. Surrender your life to Him. In Him you will find peace, even in the midst of an uncertain world! If you do know Jesus, the Bible says (see above) that you have overcome the world. Only through Jesus, who has overcome this world, can you find certainty in the midst of a crazy world.

Yes, we've always lived in "uncertain" times. Why? Because we've always lived in a fallen world, tainted by sin. However, Jesus overcame the world and only in Him will you and I find peace, stability, and encouragement for our lives - right here in the midst of it all.
