How Much Do You Want It?

Lately I've been watching some of the Summer Olympics. It amazes me the way God created human beings. We have the potential to accomplish many things that would seem to be beyond our natural capabilities. For instance the gymnastics events. People seem to fly between the uneven bars! They loop and twirl and twist and fly off into what seems to be oblivion - only to land perfectly on their two feet! What in the world allows them to do this?

The truth is, they are human beings just like you and me. The difference, as you know, is that for years they train and train, and then train some more.
Many win the Gold medal. As I have been pondering their amazing feats of late, something occurred to me. There must be something in the Olympian that separates them from every other human, even though they are only human. This is what I have come with. Are you ready for this? Here goes! They really, really, really, really want it! I mean they really want it! I'm sure coaches and trainers pose this question to athletes time and again..."How much to you want it?" The depth of their desire to reach the goal determines whether or not they reach the goal! Simply stated, if they want it badly enough they will put forth the effort to obtain it!

This same principle can be applied to our walk with Jesus. The difference is - instead of accomplishing incredible "human" feats (like the Olympic gymnast), God accomplishes supernatural feats in and through us.

God never called you to mediocrity. You are called to the greatness of God! However, we will never know His greatness without pursuing Him like the Olympian pursues the gold. Oh how magnificent it is to have our mighty God abiding in and working through us! So why is it most Christ-followers don't get this? Why is it that most settle for a mediocre Christian walk, infused with the things of the world? It is the same reason that separates the Olympic Athlete from the rest of us humans.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." The key to pleasing our Creator is in this verse. The key to a successful walk with Jesus is in this verse. The key to fulfilling our divine destiny is in this verse. The key to total fulfillment is in this verse. But here comes that question, "How much do you want it?" The promise is there. The key is there. We actually know what we should do and admit we know! But many don't pursue God. Why? The answer is clear...they don't want Him badly enough!

How much to you want to please God? How much do you desire His unfailing love to control your life? How much do you want to see God change you? How much do you desire a break-through in your circumstances? You have been given the key. The ball is in your court. It is now up to you.

As for me, I consider this an incredible blessing! God has given me the key. He has laid it out before me. Now it's my turn. But I must first answer the question, "How much do I want Him?" And once again I pose the question to you - How much do you want Him?
