Be Still And Know

As I bask in the presence of God's Spirit on this Saturday morning, I am listening to an incredible song that seems to reach deep into my heart. The lyrics go like this:

"Hide me now
Under Your wings
Cover me
Within Your mighty hand

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father you are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God"
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/h/hillsong_united/still.html ]
Storms will come. They are inevitable. The waters will rise. But we can soar above the storm as He is King...even over the flood. The key however is to "Be Still"  before Him.  The lyrics of this song come from Psalm 46:10, "Cease striving (Be still) and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

We don't know that God is really God until we cease and desist from all of our activities and sit at His feet. We are all too busy and when the storm comes most of us panic. Why? Because we don't know He is God. I'm not saying we're not saved. But to know that He is God is to know Him intimately. When we know God intimately, we not only know of His love and grace, but we also know of His capabilities. We know that He is for us and not against us!

When we stop and sit at His feet perspectives are corrected; attitudes are realigned; emotions are healed; and most important of all...we KNOW He is God. This brings us to a stronger faith and trust in Him and His Word. The Sons of Korah had a clue. They knew eventually it would get to the point in which they had to STOP and wait before their God. Nothing else would suffice. Nothing else would do. Nothing else would even matter.

If you need God (like me) to be exalted in your life and in your situation then simply stop. Go to Him and worship Him. Make time to wait before Him. Sit at His feet and receive the "good part which shall never be taken away from you". (See Luke Chapter 10) Simply be still and know.
